But electrical RV slide-out systems can, and do, fail. The time to learn to troubleshoot a slide-out problem is not in a campground with a fully extended slide-out. Take the time to learn how to manually open the electric slide-out on your travel trailer. Items you will need Screwdriver Crank handle Step 1 Park the trailer in an area clear of obstructions. Make sure the trailer is level before operating the slide-out. Step 2 Check the battery and verify it is fully charged and connected to the electrical system. If the slide does not extend or retract, use the manual override to extend or retract the slide-out. Step 3 Find the slide-out motor. The motor is located beneath the slide-out room. Refer to the owner’s manual for the exact location. Step 4 Remove the brake assembly from the motor. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that connect the brake assembly to the motor. Don’t lose the screws. Set the brake assembly aside. Step 5 Find the crank extension. The crank extension is located either on the outside or the inside of the frame. Refer to the owner’s manual for the exact location. Step 6 Attach the crank handle to the crank extension. The crank handle comes with the trailer. If the crank handle is not available, use a wrench or socket and ratchet to turn the crank extension by hand to extend or retract the slide-out. Step 7 Reattach the brake assembly to the slide-out motor. Replace the screws and securely tighten each one with the screwdriver. The brake assembly prevents the slide-out from moving. Tips Refer to the operator's manual for specific instructions for the make and model of your travel trailer. Have the travel trailer serviced at a certified service center. Warnings Disconnect the battery from the electrical system before manually extending or retracting the slide-out. Do not overextend or retract the slide-out. This can damage the slide-out mechanism. Wear heavy gloves when manually working the the slide-out to avoid injury. Disclosure Leaf Group is a USA TODAY content partner providing general travel information. However, it can explode or expel oxygen from an atmosphere and that makes it dangerous. To reduce the risks, ethyl mercaptan is added. In addition to that, you need to light it in a very strict sequence, which is outlined below in 7 steps. You will either find them in the user manual or on a sticker on the case of the furnace, the fascia, or inside the front panel. Make sure the instructions are specific to your model because there could be vital variations. In case you are having trouble locating where the switch is simply look at the control panel and you will see a digital control that is more like a regular thermostat. Look for the slider control and move it to its hottest position. It will do so for a prescribed period in order to clear any propane that might have leaked into the combustion. Therefore, that process is very important because it ensures that the risk of an explosion is minimized completely. Once the pilot light starts burning, it will take about one more minute before the furnace ignites. Pop up campers have a thermocouple - a pilot light failsafe that prevents propane from flowing to the burners if the pilot light does not burn within the prescribed amount of time (usually about one minute). This is an automatic troubleshoot like process that typically takes two to five minutes. Within that time period, check to confirm that the thermocouple (it is a bi-metal probe) is correctly situated. When the pilot light is burning, the thermocouple should be just at the tip of the flame but not touching it. There should be a distance of about one inch. You might also want to confirm that the propane supply is on at the tank regulator. Now, ignite the lighter while holding its flame to the pilot tip. Also, look for the pilot light override button (it is clearly labeled and should not be a problem locating) and hold it down as you light the pilot. Continue holding it down for a further thirty seconds. The thermocouple will heat up. Now run through the ignition process once more and your furnace should fire up. or is We took our new to us Forest River 2008 Flagstaff Classic 625D out for the first time this weekend and we ended up with a.
